        Unit 12 Jules Verne: The Father of Science Fiction

        1. develop his love for theatre.

        8. be believed to 被認為:

        e.g. At 115, Mrs Jackson is believed to be the oldest person in the country.

        The four men are widely believed to have been killed by their captors.

        9. servant: 傭人, 仆人

        e.g. Fire and water may be good servants, but bad masters.

        A politician should be a servant of the people.

        10. whale:

        The boy set out his ideas in simple English.這男孩用簡單的英語陳述他的觀點。

        12. collision: n.碰撞, 沖突

        e.g. The school bus was involved in a collision with a truck.

        Mike had a collision with another skier and broke his leg.

        13. companion: 伴侶;同伴

        e.g. a travelling companion 旅伴

        He was my only Chinese companion during my stay in Australia.

        14. overboard: adv向船外;落水

        He fell overboard. 他從船上掉入水中。

        They were thrown overboard when they were on the sea. 他們出海時船翻了。

        15. on board: 在船上,在公共交通工具內

        e.g. We went on board the ship. 我們登上了輪船。

        Everybody on board was worried and we were curious to find out what had happened.

        The boat swayed as he stepped aboard.

        18. pass through: 經過,穿過,經歷

        e.g. The river passes through our land.這條河流經我們的國土.

        The road was so crowded that cars could not pass through.

        He passed through the university courses last years.他們熬過了困難的歲月
