The First Period
----warming up, listening and speaking
Step 1. Warming up
Ask the Ss to list the names of countries neighboring China in four directions according to the map of Asia printed in the book. Then let the Ss say the positions of the different places and waters in relation to China like the examples on page 36.
Step 2. Listening
We have talked about the positions of countries neighboring China. Now let’s listen to a passage about Dolphin Island. For the first time draw the cities with correct name and position on the map in the book. Listen again and check the answers. Then, listen again and do exercise 2 in the book. At last, listen again to check the answers.
Step 3. Speaking
Now let’s talk about the birthplaces of our grandparents, parents and ourselves. First, read and practise the dialogue in the book with the Ss.
Then let the Ss make a similar dialogue according to the useful expressions in the book.
A few minutes later ask the Ss to act out the dialogue.
