不同的“傷害”
injury 平時的大小創(chuàng)傷或傷害:
He got serious injuries to the legs at work.

wound 戰(zhàn)斗中刀或槍的創(chuàng)傷、傷口:
The soldier received two wounds in the battle.
hurt 尤指精神和感情上的傷害,肉體的傷痛。
The hurt to his feelings is more serious than the hurt in his body.
harm, damage 損害,損失(不表示傷痛)
The storm did great damage (或 harm ) to the crops.
2、prevent vt.-stop or hinder 阻止,防止,妨礙
prevent+n. / doing
Rain prevented the base-ball game.
prevent +n.+from doing. = stop/keep+n.+from doing 妨礙,防止
Their prompt actions prevented/stopped/kept the fire from spreading.
Notes:
在prevent/stop sb. ( sth. ) from doing sth. 結(jié)構(gòu)中from 在主動句中可省略,被動句中不省。keep sb. ( sth. ) from doing sth. 中from在主被動句中都不能省,如:
Nothing will prevent us ( from ) reaching our aims.
3.thrill
(To feel ) a sudden quiver of excitement or emotion.
e.g. v. 使興奮;使膽戰(zhàn)心驚
The traveler thrilled us with his stories.
n. 興奮;激動
a thrill of joy [horror]
一陣喜悅[恐怖]
Disneyland is famous for its many thrills.
thrilling adj. very exciting to experience
e.g. a thrilling time at the park

4. Some thrill rides will let you feel what it is like to fall through the air: you sit in a car that “falls” from a tall tower and you cream your way down to a safe landing.
…one’s way 這種用法有時會很形象,又如:

二、語法講解
The – ing Form ----- used as Adverbial
T i p s:
1. – ing Form 表示的必須是主語的一個動作。
2. – ing Form表示的動作和位于表示的動作同時發(fā)生或相繼發(fā)生。
3. – ing Form表示的是較次要的動作,對謂語動作加以說明。
4. 表示動作已完成用 having done
5. 它的否定式是 not doing / not having done
類型:
伴隨狀語 … and …
時間狀語 When/After …
原因狀語 As …
(2)-ing form表示的是較次要的動作,對謂語表示的動作或狀態(tài)加以說明;
Working this way, they greatly reduced the cost.
Notes:
(1)-ing form 表示的必須是主語的一個動作;
They sat facing each other.
(3)-ing form表示的動作和謂語表示的動作(或狀態(tài))是同時發(fā)生的,如果表示的動作在謂語動作之前發(fā)生,就需要用完成時。例如:
Seeing those pictures, he couldn’t help thinking of these memorable days in France.
如果謂語動作和-ing form表示的動作是完全同時發(fā)生的。分詞用when或while 加 -ing form:
Be careful when crossing the street.
He lives far from the company and is often late.
---Living far from the company, he is often late.
After she had found that money was stolen, she called 110 for help at once.
---Having found that money was stolen, she called 110 for help at once.
She has not received any news from his son and is becoming more and more worried.
