今年2月下旬，我以一名學(xué)生的身份，隨學(xué)校的訪問團(tuán)在美國參觀交流了兩個(gè)星期。在此期間，我領(lǐng)略了美國的繁華，參加了不少有意義的活動，并有幸同美國學(xué)生一起度過了數(shù)天愉快的學(xué)校生活。其中，有這么一堂外語課給我留下的印象最深。
那是在美國Lakeside School所上的第一堂課，它無疑是一堂地道的英語課，但同時(shí)也是一堂奇特的英語課。
教室的模樣很特別，乍一看，實(shí)在不像個(gè)教室，反而像一個(gè)小會議廳。十多個(gè)學(xué)生圍坐在圓桌旁，各做各的一份兒事，有聊天的，有看書的，還有吃“早點(diǎn)”的。不時(shí)地看一下教室上方的大掛鐘，還有兩分鐘就要上課了。趁著這段時(shí)間，我環(huán)視了教室的四壁，上邊貼滿了彩圖。自己畫的吧!不太漂亮，，大都是抽象的。這樣的情景似乎十幾年前在幼兒園中見到過，這個(gè)教室確實(shí)使我感到自由、愉快和奇特。

The second reason that cars are popular is the fact that the United States never really developed an efficient and inexpensive form of public transportation. Long-distance trains have never been as common in the United States as they are in other parts of the world. Air-service provides a comfortable travel system. The third reason is the most important one, though. The American spirit of inde pendence is what really made cars popular. Americans do not like to wait for a bus, or a train or even a plane. They do not like to have to follow an exact schedule. A car gives them the frecdom to schedule their own time, and this is the freedom that Americans want most to have.

There are varying opinions as to the origin of Valentine‘s Day. Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries.
Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer‘s daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it From Your Valentine. Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine.
