古時(shí)候宋國(guó)有個(gè)人，看到自己田里的禾苗長(zhǎng)得太慢，心里很著急。
這天，他干脆下田動(dòng)手把禾苗一株株地往上拔高一節(jié)。他疲憊不堪地回到家里，對(duì)家里的人說(shuō)："今天可把我累壞了！我一下子讓禾苗長(zhǎng)高了許多！"
他的兒子聽(tīng)了，連忙跑到田里去看。田里的禾苗全部枯萎了。
寓意：任何事物都有自己的規(guī)律；誰(shuí)如果違背規(guī)律蠻干，就必然受到懲罰。

宋人有閔其苗之不長(zhǎng)而揠之者，芒芒然歸，謂其人曰："今日病矣！予助苗長(zhǎng)矣！"其子趨而往視之，苗則稿矣。

Day and night he longed for the seedlings in the field to grow tall and strong quickly.
他日日夜夜盼望田里的秧苗快快長(zhǎng)高長(zhǎng)大。
But the seedlings grew very slowly,not as quickly as he hoped.
可是，秧苗長(zhǎng)得很慢，沒(méi)有像他所希望的那樣長(zhǎng)得快。
One day, he hit upon a good idea.
有一天，他想出了一個(gè)好辦法。
He sneaked to the field andpulled each seedling up a little bit from the soil.
他自己睜哨地跑到田里，把每一棵秧苗都從泥土里往上拔高了一些。
Seeing that all these edlings in the field were taller than before, he felt very pleased with himself.
看到田里的秧苗都比原來(lái)高了，他心里感到樂(lè)滋滋的。
He went home. Though all worn out, he told the members of his family happily:
回到家里，他雖然筋疲力盡，但是非常高興地告訴家人說(shuō):
"I worked for a whole day today.
“今天，我干了一整天。
How tired I am! But the seedlings in the field have grown a lot taller."

When his son heard that the seedlings had grown taller, he hurried to the field to take a look.
